In September of 2002, Vina Lustado was awarded an international fellowship from the American Council on Germany. The purpose of the fellowship was to promote cross-cultural exchange between the United States and Germany. The fellowship was geared towards independent research abroad, and the subject of the research was to be defined by the fellowship recipient.
Because Germany is renowned for advanced sustainable building practices, Vina proposed to do a study on the comparative methods of ecological building between the United States and Germany. Her research focused on residential buildings, and specifically on projects that had cost-effective strategies and economical building methods.
Since the fellowship, Vina Lustado has gained working knowledge in green building principles. She has applied these principles by working with many clients on residential projects. SOL HAUS DESIGN was formed as a means to further Vina’s endeavor of promoting sustainability, by living smaller but with greater quality.
